The two concentrations offered are Global Leadership and Nursing Education.
While studying for a master’s degree in nursing with a focus on global leadership, students will explore healthcare disparities and the influence that policy development and leadership have on improving patient outcomes. Having a program that specializes in global leadership in nursing fosters the ideals of engagement with colleagues from other countries, ethnic groups, and healthcare related contexts. Issues such as human trafficking, maternal-newborn health, underserved populations, health inequities, and emerging infectious diseases will be addressed. Students will evaluate the use of data to drive decisions that affect organizational change. Additionally, students will examine various leadership styles and develop an understanding of financial management. The program of study includes a capstone practicum that provides the opportunity for students to apply global leadership principles and concepts learned in previous courses.
DSU’s MSN program with a concentration in nursing education is designed to provide essential instructional methods to educate future and current nurses by utilizing teaching-learning theories and strategies within academic and clinical practice settings. This concentration will develop skills specific to the preparation of nurse educators including curriculum development, instructional technology, learning theories, and evidenced-based teaching. In addition to coursework, students will complete a supervised teaching practicum in a setting convenient to their home
